Snapchat: whether you know about it or not, it is becoming the hottest marketing attraction for sports teams, entertainers, clothing brands, and even tourism! Yesterday into today, New Hampshire was featured as the local, live snap which means that people all around New Hampshire could take pictures and videos of themselves doing “New Hampshire-y” things, share them with the Local New Hampshire profile, and get a chance to be featured on the mobile app! There were people getting Dunkins, going water skiing, and attending political rallies about the presidential campaign. This application provided Americans the chance to see New Hampshire-ies in the region enjoying what New Hampshire has to offer.
Now, if you aren’t up to date on your media, you may not know what Snapchat is and what it does! The draw of this specific platform is that it plays off the idea of “temporary social media.” Anytime you make a post, it is available for a certain amount of seconds that you choose to set. The person receiving the message can only view it for that time allotted and you choose your audience in your friend circle or with something like the local New Hampshire profile that could replay your snap to wider audiences that watch theirs. A more popular definition from the Wikipedia community says:
“Snapchat is a video messaging application created by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown, then Stanford University students. Using the application, users can take photos, record videos, add text and drawings, and send them to a controlled list of recipients. These sent photographs and videos are known as "Snaps". Users set a time limit for how long recipients can view their Snaps (as of March 2015, the range is from 1 to 10 seconds), after which they will be hidden from the recipient's device but not deleted from Snapchat's servers.”
Each person has their own daily story that can be saved for up to 24 hours unless you delete it. As you go through your day and take “snaps,” you can save them to your story to watch them again later in sequence. You can also see your other friends’ stories from the day and replay them. The New Hampshire live story is only active for that same amount of time and we heard it from The Morning Buzz on Twitter that it was active! Here are some photos we took screenshots of from last night:
