Tucked up quite close to our most recent Lakes Region Blog topic of the Café Lafayette Dinner Train, is a performing arts facility called Jean’s Playhouse. It’s right up the road in Lincoln, New Hampshire behind the movie theatre, and houses talented performers from all over the country every summer. Jean’s Playhouse looks to “enhance the culture of the White Mountains region for locals and tourists alike” by providing its area with performing companies devoted to education, community, and professional-level productions!
IMPACT
This summer is full of great programming on the main stage as well as with IMPACT (Imagination, Music, and Professional Artistry in Children’s Theatre), the traveling children’s theatre group. IMPACT will be traveling to such places as the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord, over to the Claremont Opera House, up to the Silver Center for the Arts in Plymouth, and all the way up to Rialto in Lancaster. Their programming includes many of your favorite fairy tales like Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Three Little Bigs, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, and Pinocchio. Tickets for these productions cost $7.50 for kids and $5.00 for adults and can be purchased through the individual venues.
Ticket Perks!
When you attend shows on the main stage, having your tickets before the show can be a very important asset! Showing your tickets to certain restaurants in the Lincoln area can mean some significant discounts for you. If you head over to the Woodstock Station and order two appetizers, the second is half off! Your appetizer is free if you order more than two entrees at the Common Man in Lincoln, you get 15% your whole meal at Pub 32 and the Indian Head Resort, and 10% off your whole meal at CJ’s Pub or Gordi’s Fish and Steak House. Just make sure you can flash your tickets to your server to prove your Jean’s Playhouse devotion and you’ll be saving some sweet cash for supporting the arts in New Hampshire!
Shows on the Main Stage!
Once you’ve gotten your Lincoln-level nourishment, you can go over to the main stage where Pippin has already opened! The story of the young heir to the throne, prince Pippin is in search of the secret to true happiness, fulfillment, and his own “Corner of the Sky.” You can join the cast and their “Magic To Do” tempting the fate of the ambitious royal with up tempo dance numbers and a wise old grandmother who asks the audience to sing along! But make sure to check the calendar because this show will be in rep with Man of La Mancha starring Jean Playhouse’s own artistic director, Scott Severance. This musical frames the story of Don Quixote on a quest that leads him to love and adventure. Both musicals offer moments of humor, sadness, and of course, singing!
And Now, A Word From Pippin…
A recent-college graduate from Plymouth State University only a few exits down from Jean’s is the 22-year old actor, Andrew Burton Kelley, who plays the role of Pippin in the musical this summer. This is Kelley’s first summer working at the Playhouse though he isn’t new to summer acting gigs: “Playing the title role of Pippin is an experience I’m thrilled to be part of. It has been fun watching all the other actors develop their characters, which allows me to discover new things to play off of. It’s a blast!”
Share The Experience!
So there you have it, a chance to support the arts in the White Mountains region and enjoy yourself in the process. Don’t forget that Jean’s offers $15 tickets on Fridays to New Hampshire residents who purchase their tickets with ID in hand! AND don’t forget that this theatre serves adult libations to further enhance your viewing pleasure. We hope you get a chance to see a show and share your experience with us on Instagram! @LakesRegAirportShuttle #ShuttleToTheMusical (Maybe we can even get a cast shout-out? #MaybeDreamsDoComeTrue)
