Posted On: 02/10/2016
There are a lot of promises for future low prices in airfare for Americans. Having heard it from social media and friends myself, a $99 ticket to Europe sounds seriously too good to be true. Not that I usually take advantage of $99 in-country ticket sales on a whim, but the idea of flying off to Europe one weekend sounds like an incredible advantage.
With the lower prices of Airbnb making housing more affordable and more “homey,” traveling in 2016 and 2017 could be a very different experience. We haven’t located these $99 flight downloads yet but we are getting closer with today’s posting on Icelandair!
One Step Closer
Icelandair is an option my family is considering for a European trip this summer. After checking out WOW Air, as described on a previous posting, Icelandair seems to provide more travel amenities. Both companies are set out of Iceland but each have their own advantages: entertainment, free soft drinks, food on sale, and “good” legroom as advertised on the Icelandair website. The pictures of the planes look similar as if you were taking an international Delta or American Airline flight.
Economy Comfort and Saga Class are the upper tiers of the Icelandair plane family. Economy Comfort has more legroom, complimentary headphones, an electric outlet on your seat, a complimentary meal, a complimentary beverage (champagne included), and an earlier check-in. Saga Class seats 4 abreast instead of the 6 with the other two classes, adds free noise cancelling headphones, newspapers, hot towels, and complimentary everything!
Check It!
With Icelandair you can check up to two 50-pound bags per person with two carry-ons. With WOW, you’re allowed only one carry-on and one 20-pound checked bag. So it seems like Iceland beats them with amenities.
The other thing is that using the WOW website means you can’t select the roundtrip button. You have to purchase those separately. However, you could go from Boston to Stockholm with WOW on September 7th right now for $245 one way OR the same ticket with Icelandair at about $480 one way.
