Get a Ride to the Ice Castles!

This weekend, I had the privilege of attending the Ice Castles in Lincoln, New Hampshire. It was my second consecutive year visiting them and I was not disappointed by their majesty! I stood in the middle of the ice maze seeing excited families posing for pictures, drinking hot cocoa, and listening to some of the most epic orchestral music over the loudspeakers. The builders of these castles know how to immerse their visitors in the magic.

The Smartest Ice Castle-Goers

After going to the Ice Castles last year, I had a little more knowledge for this one...especially in ticket pricing! When you purchase at the door for the Ice Castles, you pay $18 per person. Children 4-11 cost $15. However, if you purchase online before you go, you pay $15.95 for adults and $12.95 for children. Those are some major savings to account for! Keep that in mind when you are planning your winter weekends.

Besides my gained knowledge from past excursions, the Hobo Railroad has implemented new strategies to help their visitors get through the lines faster. Instead of making you stand in their packed lobby to get your tickets like last year, they have rented trailers with ticket windows and implemented multiple lines that direct visitors based on the entry times.

Added Bonuses

Upon entering the castles this year, crowds were greeted by young students dressed as the characters from Disney’s Frozen. Little kids came up to take pictures with them, to sing with them, and to gawk at their beautiful outfits. The actors added a dreamy quality to the ice adventure.

My favorite moment walking through the castles this weekend had to be when I saw a little boy emerging from an icy cavern. He looked up at his mom with twinkling eyes and said, “Mom, did Ilse make this?” Adults all around us “awed” and “guffawed.” It’s great when a destination can bring out the imagination in young children.
