There has been a lot of talk lately about our New Hampshire foliage. Some people are questioning whether or not we’re being jipped for color this year! I’ve heard people say they think the colors are more muted because we haven’t had as much rain, and some speculate that the weather has been more unpredictable than usual so we aren’t getting the usual spread of yellows, oranges, and reds. Well, I’m no expert on any of that stuff but I have found a chart we can refer to about our specific foliage with the great people at Visit New Hampshire!
If there's one thing we known in New Hampshire, it's foliage. When the leaves change and the tourists come, you can trust one of our foliage trackers to help get you to the best spots in the Lakes Region
Foliage Trackers
Our personal brand of foliage obviously generates a lot of the tourism in our state but how do the tourists know which parts of the state to visit for what they want? Well… if you take a look at New Hampshire’s official Foliage Tracker, you will see where we are color-wise. The Lakes Region seems to be in an early yellow stage in difference to the Great Woods North that has really begun to spread its burnt orange colors. According to the tracker, the Lakes Region should start seeing its own burnt orange colors within the next few days! Scrolling the cursor on the date bar of the left side of the chart up and down can give you a great rainbow effect on the map that is very pleasing to see.
Now What?
Now you know where and when the foliage is arriving, how do you enjoy it properly? Besides watching the leaves change, there are plenty of activities to do in the Lakes Region where you can enjoy the season change! First, take a foliage cruise on the M/S Mount Washington over Lake Winnipesaukee. Enjoy the season change on the water wrapped up in a big wool blanket with your loved ones! You can also take everyone apple picking and enjoy the fruits born from the ever changing trees themselves! This year, my family picked Macoun and Cortland apples for baked apples over vanilla bean ice cream. A hard day’s picking made that night’s dessert even more decadent…
