Last week’s LRAS Thursday blog was all about the American road trip to the best domestic chocolate. We took you to Florida, New York City, and Chicago for some of the most decadent desserts! The best part is that if you don’t have the time to make a road trip, all of these places will ship their desserts to you. If last week’s blog didn’t convince you, maybe this week’s European Trip for Chocolate will! Read about the best chocolatiers in Europe and plan your journey to decadence!
BAVARIA
I was in Germany a few months ago in beautiful Bavaria. I visited the Neuschwanstein Castle that inspired Walt Disney’s Cinderella castle, countless beer gardens, and I went in search for the most incredible chocolates. It shouldn’t be a secret that Germany’s commercial chocolate is better than ours so their local chocolate is insanely out of this world! One of the brands that popped up everywhere was Mozartkugel. There are a ton of different chocolatiers that make the same recipe with Mozart’s face on it, but finding the right one is the key when you’re traveling there. The best one I found was in Salzburg, Austria.
The Original MozartKugel shop, Cafe-Konditorei, was established in 1884 in Salzburg. My family visited this shop on our walk through the city. It is made with marzipan and pistachio surrounded by nougat and dark chocolate. You can order it from their website here and it is seriously worth it. I’ve never had better chocolate in my life!
SWITZERLAND
You can’t post a blog about European chocolate without mentioning Switzerland! One of the best shops is called Teuscher. With locations in Berlin, Zurich, and Geneva, the assorted chocolates from this brand is worth the long plane ride. Teuscher specializes in chocolate champagne truffles:
“Our house specialty, the famous Champagne Truffes, is a delicate blend of fresh cream, butter and chocolate with a champagne cream center surrounded by a dark chocolate ganache, enrobed in milk chocolate and dusted with confectioner’s sugar.”
