I recently took a trip to a high school to visit some students and give them a shuttle ride when I realized just how many of them were sneezing and coughing from the temperature change! Afraid for my health I applied hand sanitizer, didn’t shake any hands, and kept my distance. All those students spend so much time around each other that it’s difficult not to get a cold when it’s going around! But I have found a remedy in the last year that is worth the money in keeping you and your family healthy this winter. That remedy is in the healing powers of elderberry syrup!
An Annoying Family Tradition...
One of my family’s Christmas traditions besides stockings, parties, and gingerbread is that my father gets pneumonia every year. However, since my family started taking elderberry last year, my dad was pneumonia free for Christmas! Though my first undertaking of this syrup wasn’t great, the taste has come to grow on me especially since the syrup can be paired with different herbs for taste and nutritional value. It’s much more bearable than any medicine tastes but isn’t administered as a medicine. Elderberry is very beneficial for the immune system and can be taken once a day in increments of 2 tablespoons for increased immune system protection. In the event that you are ill, you can drink more than one increment a day and it really does help to get the cold out of your system!
Where Ours Comes From
My elderberry supply comes from a company called Mummalove Elderberry in Candia. This woman running her small business really knows how to educate her customers on the upkeep of their immune system health and give them the elderberry blend their families need. But you can also get elderberry at local health food stores. The positive thing to the business I go to is that I know this woman makes the elderberry in her kitchen so all of the herbs and fruits are fresh, dated, and made in an environment like the one I live in!
Try It Before It's Too Late!
If you’re used to wintertime colds, give elderberry syrup a try! My Christmastime plan for my friends (spoilers if they’re reading) is to give gifts based on mental and bodily health. If I could give everyone on my list super immune systems, I think I’d be doing my duty to physical and mental health for the year. I’d also be doing my part to buy products made in the USA which ABC News will be posting about again this year! They always post goal money amounts that each American should strive to spend on American goods for Christmas presents to create jobs in our country and fund hardworking business owners. I’ve got my plans all set up!
Let us know about your NH Made goods you’re buying for your loved ones this year. Which ones are your favorite?
