Last weekend’s first big snow had some of us (me) shaking in our boots before it even started. It was a warranted fear since the sky saw a lot more snow and a lot less air travel due to cancellations. The biggest worry was the ice once the snow stopped falling and it continues to be a worry once the holiday is over. Here’s a report of this past weekend’s crazy snowstorm and what we should be seeing for holiday travel weather.
LAST WEEKEND
According to USAToday, more than 1,400 flights were cancelled and over 5,300 flights were delayed in the United States on Sunday. From Thursday to Sunday, the numbers of delayed flights almost went up to 20,000! Airports that saw the most cancellations included Chicago O’Hare, Denver, and Newark.
We didn’t see a ton of snow up here this weekend but the ice was the biggest worry. WMUR put out a report earlier last week saying that they weren’t going to get to prepare the streets for the storm with salt. The temperatures would be too low for the salt to work.
THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND
According to WMUR this week, we should expect to see a pretty warm Christmas with weather in the 40s. We will see some mixed showers on Thursday that could get in the way if you’re planning to travel on the 22nd. However, in comparison to last weekend, travelers in the sky will be a whole lot happier!
