Posted On: 02/15/2017
A new type of business flight joins the skies today with the rest of its United fleet. The 777-300ER seats about 350 people and is the world’s largest twin jet. This new plane has 60 seats designated for its Polaris Business Class with decadent in-flight meals, an airport lounge at Chicago O’Hare, United themed pajamas for extra long flights, and a self-service bar with drinks and snacks. If you’re traveling business class from the Lakes Region around the country, this looks like a business class line to try!
The Polaris Lounge
If you’re lucky enough to get to travel business or first class on a United flight, you have privileges to use the Polaris Lounge. Just use your ticket to get in and you’ll have access to upscale restrooms, high-end seating areas, food and drink, relaxation areas, and even shower suites for longer layovers. You might never hate flying again if you do so with access like this!
Business Class
If you fly coach on the Polaris you will see no difference in your experience. The chairs are still close together and there aren’t ever enough bathrooms. But if you fly business class, you get tons of storage in your overhead cabin, Saks Fifth Avenue bedding, a gourmet three course meal, a wine tasting, an 18-inch touch screen television, and free WiFi. Besides that, you pay a little extra to get to sleep fully flat during long trips. That is worth the extra bucks for me!
The Verdict
A travel blogger called “The Points Guy” shared tons of photos and advice for customers on his website. He got a chance to take part in the inaugural flight for four hours from Chicago to San Francisco. He liked the plane but it seemed that the reviews for the lounge were stronger than that of the actual plane. But if I’m stuck on a layover for six hours, and I usually am, a shower, nap, and great meal sound like the best remedy to a grumpy flyer.
