When you’re back to work after the holidays, all of your free time goes away, of course. The simple pleasures of sitting at home under a warm blanket streaming the same TV show over and over again go away, and unless you’re very disciplined with your time, finding and making time to read a good book can be a hard task. However, we at the Lakes Region Airport Shuttle hope you get the chance to take a break from your surroundings and take a warm trip. On that warm trip, we hope you find a great book for the transport. Let us give you hand by recapping some of the best sellers from last year that you might have missed…
Authors With a Comeback!
The American public saw the comebacks of two important authors last year with more stories to tell. The first was Harper Lee with Go Set A Watchman ! This highly anticipated book was received with much excitement as well as criticism since it’s her prequel to To Kill A Mockingbird that was not published in the 1950s. I have heard much criticism of the book about its “unedited” quality making it difficult to read. Looking at consumer reviews of the book online, you will see many people agree with that criticism, and many others found it to be incredible. The final word is with you on the plane trip you’re taking in February to the Bahamas…
The other author to have published a book this year is Judy Blume! The notable writer of Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing , Superfudge , and Blubber , famous with middle schoolers the world over, had In the Unlikely Event published this year. This book is meant more for a mature crowd in its flashback nature. The plot circles around the 1950s in the midst of fears of the A bomb when air travel was the newest hype. The main character, Miri, recalls being 15 and the worst year of her life in New Jersey when planes were falling out of the sky. So you probably don’t want to read this book mid flight, but it got some great reviews from the New York Times if you’re looking for a beach book.
Some Other New Books To Peruse
Though she has already won some hearts with her book Water for Elephants , Sara Gruen released a book this year called At the Water’s Edge. Based during WWII, Ellis Hyde is a boy who could not be drafted due to colorblindness and has shamed his father as such. To regain his favors, Ellis decides to go hunt for the Loch Ness monster! The book symbolizes the powers of man and destruction, man and nature, as well as a parallel between the figure of Hitler and this Loch Ness beast. It seems like a very interesting read for the shuttle ride to Boston.
A winner of the Goodreads Choice, The Girl on the Train is the only modern set story we’re sharing in our blog today. Written like a Hitchcock thriller, this book is great for mystery lovers everywhere, which we believe are the best kinds to indulge in on vacation. The book starts out like Rear Window giving us the main character’s basic city habitat and the other people in it before turning the story upside down and forcing the reader to stop trusting everyone. Most consumer reviews say: ”Buy it now!”
