Summer Fun in Boston
Posted On: 05/17/2017
Boston is beautiful in all seasons, and summer is no exception. When the sun comes out, the city comes alive. Lakes Region Airport has created a short guide for what to do this summer in the city.
Boston has several music festivals throughout the summer months. Boston Calling is one of the most well-known. Every May, some of the most famous acts in the country converge on City Hall Plaza. Past acts include Kendrick Lamar, The National and Beck. If classical music is more your style, Concerts in the Courtyard takes place every Wednesday and Friday in the Central Library’s courtyard, or Rabb Hall in case of rain. This free concert lasts from June until the end of August. In late July, Boston Landmarks Orchestra hosts several free concerts at the Hatch Shell.
If you’re looking for more cultural events, the Chinatown Festival is not to be missed. July 1st, join throngs of people at Rose Kennedy Greenway for this free day of dancing, drumming, martial arts demonstrations and a lion dance. There are also a huge number of shop vendors, and fun for the whole family. Boston has a huge international audience, so cultural events are varied. The Bastille Day Party in mid-July celebrates French culture. From the food to the beer and wine, join in on Marlborough Street for dancing and live music. Yet another fantastic cultural celebration is late August’s Caribbean Parade. Beginning at Warren Street & MLK Boulevard, this exciting and colorful festival ends at the Caribbean food court in Franklin Park Zoo. With so many free cultural events, you’ll have trouble choosing which to attend!
Other fun events throughout the summer include The Big Fake Wedding on July 20th. This fake wedding ceremony includes a light dinner and dance reception at Colonial Hall in Salem, just a short shuttle ride away from central Boston. Beer, Blues & BBQ is a local blues festival in Worcester, that features local blues artists, games and fun activities for the whole family, and beer and small bites from local BBQ vendors. Provincetown Jazz Festival in early August is yet another wonderful music event, that brings the country’s best jazz musicians and ensembles together for one of the world’s best jazz festivals.
Have a wonderful summer in Boston, and don’t forget to make your travel arrangements early with Lakes Region.
