The LR Lately Blog has talked a lot lately about eating local! From our blogs about the Canterbury Shaker Village, Maple Syrup Month, and the Concord Food Coop, the warm weather has been inspiring us to be positive about the resources we have at hand! However, it’s also important to recognize the farmers that bring us that food. Based on the info we found at LakesRegion.org, here are the farms that supply NH Local food!
Beans and Greens Farm
The first farm on the list is Beans and Greens Farm in Gilford. This year they opened on April 25th to visitors. Their farm has new baby calves and goats to be played with, and they offer homemade cider donuts in the original recipe as well as gluten free! They sell fresh farm vegetables (including all the ones I haven’t been able to find at other stands), have a deli, and a bakery. This place is a little slice of heaven with cute, fluffy animals on the side. But it does get better… They also have a full green house AND a whole bunch of events people can attend: Corn mazes, birthday parties, hay mazes, and field trips for students! Looking at their photo albums online, they also have a cool pavilion where they hold events including their Harvest Festival for Columbus Day weekend. You can hold events at this space including weddings and wedding receptions. The event space is using the Lakes Region Bride publication photo on their website so I'm guessing this is a recommended event space through that publication. I’m making my plans to head there soon and try all of the awesome events and food.
Heritage Farm Pancake House
There is another farm in Sanbornton called Heritage Farm Pancake House! They offer family style breakfasts with homemade maple syrup 7:30am to 12:30pm every Monday through Saturday. It costs $10 for every adult and $5 for every child. Heritage Farm also offers a petting zoo and hay rides for customers! Their website doesn’t mention anything about fresh produce, but the photos of their venue seem to reflect a classic and rustic New England style that is key in that local atmosphere we all love!
Moulton Farm
There is also Moulton Farm in Meredith that has a pretty awesome, “food coop vibey” website. They are open 8am to 5:30pm everyday and have a full farm kitchen, seafood stand, and bakery. They also have greenhouses with fresh annuals and perennials! The current farm stand was built in 1990, but has been active in agriculture since 1811. The seafood stand is one of the biggest elements of this farmstand and sets it apart from others in our area. All of the seafood is fresh from Boston piers and there is an incredible list of fish types you can purchase, including homemade clam chowder. You have to see their website or visit the stand to believe how much they offer. The stand also has their own blog where you can grab recipes to help you cook what you bring home! Or you can preorder your weekly lunch if you work closeby to Moulton Farm. With the lunch you get an appetizer and an entree of your choice. Packed lunches from local food spots are all the rage right now so with all these amenities, there is no question that Moulton Farm is a must-see during your Lakes Region summer.
